iRoss - Ross-on-Wye Communicating Together
Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Ross-on-Wye is the only town in Herefordshire within the boundaries of the Wye Valley AONB. An historic market town, it is built on a cliff overlooking a large loop in the river. Visit St Mary's Church, the nearby Prospect Gardens, and the Market House Heritage Centre. Stroll around the town centre or meander along the riverside. Follow the John Kyrle Walk and find out more about the life and good works of "The Man of Ross", whose title was immortalised by the poet Pope.
Sports
There is a wide variety of sports in Ross. Many are affiliated to the Ross Sports and Leisure Federation, a charity dedicated to improving their facilities.
Leisure
Leisure facilities range from enjoying the peace and extraordinary views of the Wye Valley's AONB to the hundreds of clubs and societies, covering subjects as diverse as History, Gardening, Arts Appreciation, Science, etc.
Entertainment
Music, theatre, cinema and festivals. The area is host to numerous festival events, many in extraordinarily beautiful settings. There are a number of music clubs and societies. Choral music features strongly and the Phoenix Theatre is a little gem.
Schools
The HR9 catchment area is well served with Playgroups, Nursery Schools, Primary Schools and High Schools, both State and Private.
The John Kyrle High School achieved "Outstanding" in the most recent Ofsted report.

Advanced Technologies such as electronics, nano-technology, bio-technology, etc. will find that Ross and its surrounding AONB encourages creativity. Within its tranquil environment, it has excellent broadband and it is within one mile of the M50 to the East and a dual carriageway system to the West that puts Cardiff and Birmingham within one hour. Comfortable trains from Gloucester, increasingly equipped with wifi, can have staff or CEO into central London within two hours.
Broadband
Ross was the first market town in the country to be enabled for broadband. All of the exchanges in the Ross area are connected to the central exchange by glass fibre and up to 8Mbits/sec is available to most subscribers.

B&Bs, Guest Houses, Hotels originating in the 14th Century, Country Restaurants with Rooms and Modern Hotels all located within a short distance from the town centre.
Medical Services
Ross has a modern Community Hospital with a 24 hour A&E. The new or largely renovated hospitals at Hereford, Gloucester and Cheltenham are within a 20 to 40 minute drive and, between them cover most specialist treatments. Birmingham's extensive hospital facilities is only one hour away.
There are two modern partnership surgeries in Ross working closely with the Community Hospital and other surgeries in the outlying parishes.
A number of dental practices have a range of private services and there is a visiting NHS service.

Local Government
Each surrounding Parish has its own Council. In law, Ross Town Council has the status of a Parish Council (as does Hereford City Council). Parish Councils have limited authority.
Most services are provided by Herefordshire County Council (Officially CHDC, the County of Herefordshire District Council).
Herefordshire CC works with the West Midlands Regional Authority and with Central Government at Westminster.
Herefordshire was the first Council to impliment joint working of the Primary Care Trust and the Council, both reporting to Chris Bull, the Chief Executive.
